This past summer, I had the privilege of completing my Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) at NYP-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. This rotation was both rewarding and educational, offering me invaluable hands-on experience across various departments, including the main pharmacy, satellite pharmacy, IV room, and CCH pharmacy.

Working closely with a dedicated team of pharmacists and healthcare professionals, I witnessed firsthand the exceptional level of care provided to patients.

My time in the decentralized unit was particularly enlightening, as I observed pharmacists collaborating directly with other healthcare providers on medication management and counseling. Additionally, my experience in the IV room allowed me to learn and apply essential protocols related to garbing and sterilization. One of the highlights of my rotation was shadowing a clinical pharmacist in the psychiatric unit. This experience not only provided me with a deeper understanding of psychiatric medications and patient care but also solidified my interest in specializing in psychiatric medication.

Overall, my IPPE rotation at NYP-Brooklyn Methodist significantly enhanced my understanding of the diverse roles pharmacists play within a hospital setting. It has further strengthened my commitment to pursuing a career in pharmacy, with a particular focus on psychiatric care, emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure that every patient receives the best possible care.
