This past summer, I did my IPPE rotation at Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Westchester County. It was an incredibly rewarding and educational experience. During my time at the hospital, I had the privilege of working closely with a dedicated team of pharmacists and healthcare professionals who provided the highest level of care for their pediatric patients. As an intern, I participated in medication management and shadowed the clinical pharmacist in counseling and discharging patients. One of the most important roles pediatric pharmacists have is to emphasize the importance of medication adherence and addressing any concerns that the patients or their caregivers may have. I had the chance to learn about the different approaches considered in a child’s rehabilitation, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. The hospital also enforced the importance of a multidisciplinary healthcare team so that every patient could get the best care possible. Overall, my IPPE rotation at Blythedale Children’s Hospital provided me with valuable information regarding pediatric hospital practice, which I hope to apply in the future.
