This year, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month means more to me than ever. As a pharmacy student in my first professional year, I have taken some time to reflect on what it means to represent Hispanics in the field of pharmacy. Being that Hispanics are the fastest growing population in the US while simultaneously making up about 4.5% of pharmacists in the workforce motivates me even further to graduate and join the profession. I want to make a positive impact on my community, and I believe I can, along with my fellow E-Board members of the National Hispanic Pharmacists Association (NHPA). Next year, we plan on visiting a high school in a predominantly Hispanic community and introducing pharmacy as a potential career path to college-bound students. I believe that events like this will create an opportunity for us to inform the Hispanic youth about what a career in pharmacy looks like and provide them with some of the information they will need if they choose to pursue this path. I am very proud to have the opportunity to represent the Hispanic community and excited at the prospect of inspiring Hispanic students to consider how rewarding a career in pharmacy can be.
