Pharmacy Lobby Day, held annually, is a pivotal event where pharmacy students and pharmacists from across New York State gather in Albany to advocate for their profession and the patients they serve. This day serves as a platform for pharmacy students and pharmacists to engage with lawmakers and policymakers, addressing critical issues affecting healthcare access, patient care, and the pharmacy profession.
Pharmacists use this opportunity to highlight their expertise in medication management, emphasize the importance of pharmacist-led initiatives in public health, and advocate for legislative measures that support their role in the healthcare system.
This year we advocated for the passing of three bills into law, the first being Pharmacist CLIA-Waived Testing, the second Expanded Access to Treatment and third to expand Registered Pharmacy Technician Practice. Witnessing firsthand the power of collective action in effecting positive change was inspiring, and reinforced the importance of pharmacists; voices in shaping the future of healthcare.
Lobby Day underscores the dedication of pharmacists to ensuring the well-being of thr communities and reinforces their commitment to advancing pharmacy practice. Additionally, Lobby Day served as an opportunity for pharmacy students to network, share best practices, and collaborate on strategies to advance the profession.
As a pharmacy student who attended Lobby Day, I have a renewed sense of purpose and determination to continue advocating for policies that prioritize patient care and advance the pharmacy profession. As the president of Student Pharmacist Society of the State of New York - LIU, it was a great experience organizing the trip. The impact of Lobby Day extends far beyond its duration, serving as a catalyst for ongoing advocacy efforts that frame the advancement of healthcare.
