iGive: Our Mission and Achievements

Rachel Wu

Rachel Wu, Pharm.D. Candidate of 2026

As the current Vice President of iGIVE, it brings me great pleasure to share with you the purpose of our organization. iGIVE stands for Initiation of Giving Internationally through Volunteer Experiences and is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals around the globe.

Our primary objective is to support those in different parts of the world through international  Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) as well as volunteer experiences through medical missions trips. Upon their return, students organize Professional Development Program (PDP) events, where they share their enriching experiences from their time abroad.

Throughout the year, we host fundraising events to help communities abroad. With initiatives such as bake sales, we were able to raise over $400 towards medical supplies for a community in Guyana, where some of our students traveled and helped in a clinic there.

We produce newsletters in the “iGIVE Reader” for each block of students, providing insights into the life of an international pharmacy intern, along with memorable moments of cultural exploration and culinary delights. Furthermore, students who have participated in international APPEs are honored with a special graduation cord to recognize their invaluable experiences. They also have the opportunity to participate in photo and essay contests showcasing their adventures.

Reflecting on our accomplishments, our most noteworthy event this year was our “Step Challenge”, where over 60 participants competed to achieve the highest number of steps from March 1st - April 1st. This challenge perfectly aligns with our mission to promote wellness and health. Together, we collectively achieved an impressive 13,175,389 steps, a testament to LIU Pharmacy’s dedication and teamwork. As we approach the end of the year, we will be holding a celebration, where the winners of the step challenge will be awarded!

As I transition out of this year’s E-Board, I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as Vice President of iGIVE. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated team for their commitment, which has contributed to a successful year of service and impact.

Stay tuned for more updates and exciting initiatives from iGIVE as we continue our journey of giving back globally.
