Discovery Day

The one day I’m always looking forward to every year: Discovery Day. There isn’t anything flashy or grand about this event, and that is what makes me love it all the more. If I had to choose one day to represent the community at LIU Brooklyn, this would be it. The students and faculty all supporting each other’s scholarly pursuits is what brings our community together as a whole and furthers the intellectual atmosphere as well as the culture for knowledge and curiosity in LIU. This day gives the students the ability to voice their perspectives on issues that matter to them and share it with, and potentially make an impact on, others. This event is open for all students to learn and gain inspiration. By witnessing the dedication of others, students are encouraged to pursue their own interests and aspirations and push the boundaries of knowledge.

The first time I participated in Discovery Day I was a freshman and was overwhelmed by how supportive everyone was. There were a lot of differences this time around but the supportive nature has not changed. Everyone always loves asking questions and discovering more about one another’s research.  However, the location was different. Last time it was held in the Breezeway while this time it was held in the WRAC. I prefer the first location because it was more open and accessible to the general student body and allowed for more people to find out about Discovery Day and the research that is presented. There were more posters this time, which is probably why they moved the location. Furthermore, last year a team of judges went around and evaluated each poster. All in all, Discovery Day was an amazing experience and I hope to participate next year as well.
